China in the Middle East: Geopolitics, Trade and Society

Overview: China's growing role in the Middle East

China's role in the Middle East region has become much more important in recent years. Relations between China and the Middle East have become closer - China is increasingly acting as a player in security and economic policy issues. The strategic relevance of the region for the Belt and Road Initiative, the high volume of trade, numerous infrastructure projects and strategic partnerships underline the complexity of this relationship. On the one hand, the Middle East acts as a guarantor for China's energy security through its oil exports. On the other hand, many countries in the region see cooperation with China as an opportunity to diversify their sources of economic income and political alliances.

This international conference aims to bring together scholars, policymakers and experts from around the world to discuss the current challenges and opportunities in China-Middle East relations. The conference will highlight the diverse links between the two regions, analyze underlying factors that promote or hinder cooperation, and discuss future development paths of China-Middle East relations.
