Working on a post-war scenario
Following the devastating events in the Middle East since October 7, 2023 and the ongoing escalation of violence, the search for common, inclusive solutions has become more urgent than ever. Since 2023, the "Quo Vadis Middle East?" conference series has created a unique space for dialog, analysis and understanding between politics, academia, business and civil society - with the aim of developing concrete perspectives for peace, reconciliation and regional cooperation.
Background and objectives
Immediately after the outbreak of war in October 2023, the organizers succeeded in bringing together key players from the region for an open exchange of views in Bonn - a unique format that has been continued in subsequent years. The Quo Vadis Middle East? conference continues this dialog and is dedicated to the question of how sustainable post-war scenarios and new forms of cooperation can be shaped in the Middle East.
Central goals of the conference:
Understanding regional consequences: Analyze social, psychological and economic impacts of conflict and incorporate these perspectives into political and peacebuilding strategies.
Reflect on political decisions: Critically scrutinize the role of Western actors and their ability to influence regional dynamics.
Identify future challenges: Identifying opportunities and obstacles to sustainable stability - with a particular focus on Germany's contribution to innovative peace strategies.
Promoting sustainable peace: Strengthening actors who continue to build bridges and work towards a shared peace despite loss and trauma.
Format
The project is intended as a pilot initiative for sustainable dialog. The talks will continue in the coming years with changing groups of participants in order to involve all social actors relevant to the peace process.
